WIP: Dazzler
Alison Blaire! The most sparkly mutant of them all. Forget that blue leotard she wore in the '90s or whatever. Her pearly white jumpsuit with the giant lapels and disco-ball necklace is where it's at!
I always complain about certain heroes wearing tights, because it's dumb, but Dazzler has a good reason to wear them. The reason is that she is a Dancing Queen.

Catching up
HAWKSMOOR:

I'm all finished the art on Secret History of the Authority: Hawksmoor #6! Look for it on August 27th! See how it ends!
Hawksmoor was really exciting to work on, not to mention challenging, rewarding, and FUN! Thanks for a great script, Mike Costa. And thank you Scott Peterson and WildStorm for being awesome to work with, and letterer Rob Leigh and Chris and Clyde and the other production guys for getting the book out on time.
Also, massive thanks to my four obliging Hawksmoor models: Frazer, Nate, Patrick and Nick, haha... that's them above, but hopefully no one can tell who posed for which issue.
SAN DIEGO RECAP:

Got back last week from another awesome comic-con! Each year it gets better and I feel like I belong there a little bit more (for better or worse). This year was busy: I drank heavily, signed at the DC booth Fri-Sun, wailed at the WildStorm karaoke party, ate fish tacos, and of course met lots of other creators that I really admire.
I picked up a few excellent and carefully chosen books (including Cameron Stewart's artbook), but not too many, because I didn't want to have to check any bags at the airport. I would have met my carry-on-only goal, too, if it weren't for the lovely but very hefty and boxy Conan statue that Kevin presented me with on the last day. Thanks a lot, Seccia.
OTHER:
Former classmate and current housemate Pablo Puentes has a new website, take a look!

VAMPIRELLA QUARTERLY: SUMMER 2008
Look for my variant cover in stores this month (EDIT: September):

VAMPIRELLA!
Most people that know me know that Vampi is pretty much my favourite person, place, or thing to draw. This cover was really exciting and enjoyable to paint! The view of Drakulon in the background was inspired by Joe Jusko but I was going for a "classic" Gonzalez/Maroto vibe with Vampi herself. FUN.

drink & draw menagerie
Some sketches from the past couple of Wednesdays. What you see are: a space guy (a hazy nod to Arthur Suydam's Cholly & Flytrap), a mermaid (I think the challenge was old person + dolphin), Scarecrow, Captain America, Black Cat, Elektra, Jonah Hex, a space kid, a scuba diver, a Viking, a mouse, and a mouse girl with rockets (in the fashion of Dynamite Warrior).

Uh oh
Ok, the bad news is that I forgot to renew my web hosting and lost my website momentarily, so all the images in my old blog entries are broken. The good news is that nothing was actually lost, and soon I will put up a real page where you can see my artwork all together in one convenient location.
I also registered "fionastaples.com" so I might phase out the "good-lucky.net" title over the next year or so because it's difficult to remember and doesn't really make sense.

Hawksmoor #4 preview
Yes, #4 already! It comes out this Wednesday.

Here are a few preview pages
More explosion-jumping, sewage-swimming action as Jack fights that giant battlesuit again. And that's just the beginning of this issue!

Red Ice (not mine, but awesome nonetheless)

It's time to check out Red Ice, the Zuda comic by Scott O. Brown and Horacio Lalia. It's a cool sci-fi story with really nice, detailed artwork (reminds me of the old "Weird Science" comics by E.C.) and a convincing Mars setting!
