Lots more NORTH 40 stuff

Are you sick of my yakking yet? Comics Bulletin just posted an interview with me and Aaron!

They also showed the cover for #6 so I guess I'll repost it here:

I've never done a comic that's gotten so much press! I'm a bit surprised and really pleased that NORTH 40 seems to be getting a lot of attention, especially for a book with no big names attached and no familiar characters. But anyway, from now on it will be less talking and more art!

So here's a preview of issue 4!

Ah, the gory stuff is so much fun to draw. Andrew Foley can be blamed for giving me a taste for it. I have yet to draw another scene as sick and disgusting (and funny) as the thing that happens in the back of the limo in Done to Death #1. And I've drawn torn up bodies since then, but none as thoroughly dismembered as the ones in D2D #5. Memories.

beach

At drink & draw last night I thought I'd indulge a North 40 fan from Catalonia, who wanted to see Amanda and Sheriff Morgan in swimsuits at the beach.

I thought, "I will never have another valid excuse to draw this," so here you go, Antoni!

North 40 #5 cover

I've seen this around the web recently so I'll assume it's ok to post it. Miss Amanda Walker! The owl on the shoulder is a loving tribute to anyone who's ever been drawn with an owl on their shoulder (there have been many).

Fanart

This incredible drawing of Dyan from North 40 is by Phillippe Sherding, a very talented French illustrator:

And here's one I did of his cool character, Miss Satan:

Um actually, this is the N40 #3 cover

The one I posted previously (with the robot) appears in Previews, but will actually be used for issue 4. THIS is the one you should look for in September! And I think it's my favourite out of the six...

NORTH 40 process on Comic Monsters

Comicmonsters.com asked for a little run-down of my process, so you can see it here. Thumbnails to finished page, and also some concept sketches I did in like 2007 for the original NORTH 40 pitch.

If you pick up the series, you may notice that the old Sheriff gradually becomes more handsome as I work my way through Aaron's awesome scripts and become increasingly impressed by all the cool shit the Sheriff does.

Newsarama: Aaron Williams feature!

He talks in depth about NORTH 40 with greater eloquence and less nervous laughter than I. It makes ME want to read the book. Great interview here!

Newsarama feature

I talked to Jamie Trecker from Newsarama about NORTH 40, finding employment, artistic influences, and other stuff! HERE IT IS

And here's the cover for NORTH 40 #2! My personal favourite character, the cool-headed old Sheriff:

NORTH 40 on CBR!

There's the issue #1 cover! Here's a great interview with writer Aaron Williams, and a couple of preview pages!

People keep asking me what this comic is about and Aaron gives a way better description than I do.

Hawksmoor TP! North 40!

Yep, you can now buy Secret History of the Authority: Hawksmoor in one convenient, glossy-covered volume. I've been told it smells good, too. A multi-sensory treat!

And my super-secret current project was recently announced, meaning I can talk about it now! Says Hank Kanalz of WildStorm:

North 40,” by Aaron Williams (”PS238″) and Fiona Staples (”Secret History of the Authority”):

This is a miniseries about a Midwestern American town that holds a secret in its library — a book that brings dreams and nightmares to life. It launches in June.

I know you guys are going to love NORTH 40 because I love it, and I have impeccable taste. It's scary, gory, gross, wacky, funny, and charming... and it combines the Lovecraftian mythos with cowboys, mutants, killer robots, and teenagers. It is truly a blast to draw. I might say that about everything, but that doesn't mean it's not true.

PS: You can follow me on Twitter @fionastaples if you're into boring, meaningless tweets about what I'm drawing or eating.
